Washington DC: US President Donald Trump has claimed that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 10-day ceasefire aimed at paving the way for longer-term peace between the two countries.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he held “excellent conversations” with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during which both leaders agreed to begin a temporary ceasefire.

Trump’s statement on ceasefire agreement

Trump wrote: “I just had excellent conversations with the Highly Respected President Joseph Aoun, of Lebanon, and Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, of Israel. These two Leaders have agreed that in order to achieve PEACE between their Countries, they will formally begin a 10 Day CEASEFIRE at 5 P.M. EST.”

He further added: “Both sides want to see PEACE, and I believe that will happen, quickly.”

According to Trump, representatives from Israel and Lebanon had recently met in Washington for direct discussions after decades, in what he described as a step toward renewed diplomacy.

He also said he has directed senior US officials, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to work with both sides to achieve a lasting peace agreement.

Trump added: “It has been my Honor to solve 9 Wars across the World, and this will be my 10th, so let's, GET IT DONE!”

No official confirmation yet

There has been no immediate confirmation from either Israeli or Lebanese authorities regarding the ceasefire announcement.

The development comes amid ongoing tensions in the region linked to the broader Israel-Hezbollah conflict and wider West Asia instability.

The announcement comes as global diplomacy efforts continue around the West Asia conflict, with multiple countries pushing for de-escalation and stability in the region.

The situation remains fluid, with discussions also taking place on issues including maritime security and strategic routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
