US President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States supplied guns to Iranian protestors during anti-regime demonstrations, adding that the weapons were routed through Kurdish groups and were later taken by them.

Washington DC: In a recent interview, United States President Donald Trump stated that the US had provided guns to Iranian protestors during the January anti-regime demonstrations.
He added that these weapons were sent “through the Kurds” and suggested that the Kurdish groups may have retained them while talking to Fox News.

According to his remarks, the transfer was part of broader US involvement during the period of unrest in Iran, although no official evidence or confirmation has been provided to support the claim.
Reference to Kurdish groups
Trump’s comments referred to Kurdish communities, a large ethnic group spread across parts of Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria. Kurdish groups include both civilian populations and various political or militant organisations, some of which have been designated as terrorist groups by Iran.
He implied that the weapons intended for Iranian protestors were handled via Kurdish intermediaries, but did not provide further operational details.
Claims on protest casualties
During the same remarks, Trump also alleged that the Iranian regime had “slaughtered” 45,000 people during anti-regime protests. However, there is no official confirmation of such a figure from Iranian authorities.
Independent estimates and activist reports have varied widely, with some suggesting significantly lower numbers and others citing higher unofficial counts, but no universally accepted total has been established.
Context of ongoing regional tensions
The statement comes amid heightened tensions in West Asia involving Iran and other regional actors. The situation has been marked by military activity, diplomatic strain and conflicting claims from different sides.
Trump has previously expressed both support for and opposition to Kurdish involvement in potential actions against Iran, reflecting shifting positions in his public statements over time.
The remarks add to ongoing debates around foreign involvement in internal protests and the role of external actors in regional conflicts. However, the claims made have not been independently verified and remain part of political rhetoric rather than confirmed policy disclosures.
