London: An "unknown projectile" struck an oil tanker off the coast of Oman near the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, triggering a fire on board, according to the British maritime security agency, UKMTO.

"A tanker has reported being hit by an unknown projectile on the port side, causing a fire, whilst travelling southbound," the UKMTO stated. The agency confirmed that there have been no reports of casualties or environmental damage resulting from the incident.

On June 25, 2026, a commercial cargo vessel navigating a United Nations-sanctioned route in the Strait of Hormuz was struck by a projectile, as announced by the British military. This incident occurred while multiple commercial tankers were departing the same channel. Iran has previously issued threats against merchant ships travelling along this specific path, which extends past the Omani coastline and was established by a U.N. maritime agency.
