According to reports, the court also imposed financial penalties on both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, though detailed figures were yet to be officially confirmed at the time of reporting. The case relates to alleged misuse of authority and corruption during Imran Khan’s tenure as prime minister.
Imran Khan, who was removed from office through a no-confidence motion in April 2022, has remained in custody in various cases over the past year. His party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has consistently maintained that the cases against him are politically motivated, a claim rejected by the authorities.
Bushra Bibi, Khan’s wife, has also been named in multiple investigations linked to alleged corruption and abuse of power. Legal representatives for the couple are expected to challenge the verdict in a higher court.
The sentencing comes amid continued political tension in Pakistan, where legal proceedings against senior opposition leaders have drawn international attention. Further details from the court order and official statements are awaited.
