Epstein Files name Mira Nair, mother of NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, in 2009 Email

In the latest batch of records made public under transparency efforts tied to the infamous Jeffrey Epstein Files, an email dated October 21, 2009, has resurfaced that references Indian-born filmmaker Mira Nair, who is also the mother of New York City’s newly sworn-in mayor, Zohran Mamdani.

According to the email, which was reportedly sent by publicist Peggy Siega l  to Epstein shortly after an event, Nair attended an “after-party” at the Manhattan townhouse of Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted associate of Epstein. The party followed a screening tied to Nair’s 2009 film ‘Amelia’, a biographical drama about aviator Amelia Earhart.

Siegal’s message to Epstein, part of the newly released tranche of more than three million pages of documents, including tens of thousands of emails, noted the presence of high-profile guests such as former U.S. President Bill Clinton and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos alongside Nair. The email also remarked on the film’s reception at the event, describing it as “tepid,” though “women like it much more.”

Importantly, the DOJ has cautioned against reading the mere mention of individuals in these documents as evidence of wrongdoing or improper conduct. The newly disclosed files include a vast array of social correspondence and event details, often contextual metadata rather than material directly tied to Epstein’s criminal actions.

Mira Nair, an internationally celebrated director known for works such as ‘Monsoon Wedding’ (2001) and ‘Salaam Bombay!’ (1988), has not been accused of any criminal activity in connection with the Epstein case. Her inclusion in the email simply reflects her attendance at a social function where the film Amelia was highlighted.

For Zohran Mamdani, whose own rise in politics has been followed closely since he assumed office, the mention of his mother in these documents underscores the public’s intense scrutiny of all high-profile names that appear in the sprawling Epstein file disclosures, even when the context is tangential.
