Schools and public bus services in northern Israel will remain suspended from Tuesday as escalating rocket fire by Hezbollah raises fresh concerns over the fragile ceasefire with Lebanon.

Tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border have escalated again, forcing authorities in northern Israel to suspend schools and public bus services as a safety precaution amid continued rocket fire from Hezbollah.
Schools and transport halted in northern Israel
Local council leaders in northern Israeli settlements announced that all schools and bus services will remain suspended starting Tuesday due to the deteriorating security situation. The decision was taken to minimise risk to civilians, particularly students, as cross-border attacks continue.
Officials have not specified how long the suspension will remain in place, indicating that the situation is being reviewed on a daily basis.
A ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon came into effect on April 17, initially aimed at reducing hostilities along the border. However, both sides have since accused each other of repeated violations.
Donald Trump recently stated that the truce had been extended by three weeks, but incidents on the ground suggest that the ceasefire remains fragile and inconsistently observed.
Escalation of attacks and counterattacks
Hezbollah has launched multiple rocket and drone strikes targeting Israeli positions in northern Israel and southern Lebanon, stating that its actions are in response to alleged Israeli violations of the ceasefire.
In turn, Israeli forces have carried out airstrikes in southern Lebanon, targeting what they describe as Hezbollah military infrastructure. These strikes have hit areas including the Nabatieh region, leading to casualties and renewed panic among residents.
Lebanese authorities report that more than 2,500 people have been killed and over 1.6 million displaced since the escalation began in early March. A recent wave of Israeli airstrikes resulted in at least 14 deaths in a single day, marking the deadliest escalation since the ceasefire was introduced.
Hospitals in affected areas have remained on emergency alert, struggling to manage incoming casualties amid ongoing uncertainty.
Civilian disruption on both sides
The renewed violence has significantly disrupted daily life across the region. In northern Israel, closures of schools and transport services reflect growing concerns over public safety. Meanwhile, in southern Lebanon, residents face repeated air raid warnings, evacuations, and damage to infrastructure.
The Israeli military has reportedly issued evacuation orders for several villages in southern Lebanon, further contributing to displacement and fear among civilians.
Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, the situation remains volatile. The continuation of rocket fire and retaliatory strikes raises questions about the sustainability of the ceasefire and the possibility of further escalation.
With both sides maintaining their positions and blaming each other for violations, the risk of a broader conflict persists, leaving civilians on both sides of the border facing ongoing insecurity.
