The funeral of former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar’s elder brother, Shahid Akhtar, in Islamabad has sparked controversy after images and video reportedly showed people linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and its political front at the ceremony.

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar’s family funeral in Islamabad has come under the spotlight after media reports and circulated video showed people linked to terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba and its political front attending the ceremony.
Shahid Akhtar, Shoaib Akhtar's elder brother, was laid to rest at H-8 Graveyard, where PMML-linked figures including Inam-ur-Rehman Kamboh were reportedly present. The appearance of Saifullah Kasuri, described in reports as Lashkar-e-Taiba’s deputy chief, has now triggered a major controversy.
The event was attended by figures identified in media reports as belonging to the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League, widely described as a proxy linked to the banned terrorist group.
According to reports from established outlets, those seen at the funeral included PMML Islamabad chief Inam-ur-Rehman Kamboh, along with Abdullah Toor, Hafiz Umar and Amjad Bhatti. Some reports also said a video circulated by the group itself helped amplify the backlash, as it showed the presence of these individuals at the funeral prayers.
The appearance of such figures at a public family ceremony has renewed attention on Pakistan’s long-running struggle to distance itself from terrorist networks and their visible political fronts.
The controversy widened further because Saifullah Kasuri, identified in reports as Lashkar-e-Taiba’s deputy chief, was also said to have been spotted at the gathering. That claim has added to the sensitivity around the episode, especially given the international scrutiny Pakistan faces over organizations and individuals tied to Hafiz Saeed’s network.
While the funeral itself was a private family event, the militant-linked attendance transformed it into a broader political and security talking point.
Shoaib Akhtar, one of Pakistan cricket’s most famous names, has not been the focus of the allegations, but the sight of LeT-linked figures at his brother’s funeral has made the story travel quickly across regional media. The reports underscore how even personal family moments can become public flashpoints when they intersect with Pakistan’s terror landscape.
