Kyiv: At least three people were killed in Russian drone and missile strikes in and around the Ukrainian capital early Saturday, Ukrainian officials said, even as a Ukrainian delegation travelled to the United States to advance peace talks.

The Kyiv City Military Administration reported that two people died in attacks on the capital, while a woman was killed and eight were wounded in a combined missile and drone attack on the surrounding Kyiv region.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko added that 29 people were injured in the city as debris from intercepted Russian drones hit residential buildings. He also noted that parts of western Kyiv lost power following the strikes.

Amid the ongoing attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on X that the delegation, led by National Security Chief Rustem Umerov, is heading to the U.S. to swiftly and substantively work out the steps needed to end the war.

The diplomatic push follows a 28-point plan released last week by U.S. President Donald Trump, which was widely seen as favouring Russia. Zelenskyy quickly moved to engage American negotiators, while European leaders urged Washington to ensure that their concerns are also addressed.
