Tehran: Mourners at the funeral procession of former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei reportedly carried banners and placards calling for the death of US President Donald Trump.

Images from the procession showed a banner reading “Kill Trump,” with a bullet graphic striking the word “Trump.” Other placards reportedly featured images of US Vice President JD Vance, War Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu alongside the phrase “There will be blood.”

According to Euronews, eulogist Mohammad Rasouli also made remarks against Trump during the ceremony while addressing mourners before funeral prayers.

“Why shouldn’t we kill the one who killed my Imam and my Leader?” he was quoted as saying.

He further added, “It is a disgrace for us if we do not kill your killer,” and reportedly called for chants of “death to America” and “death to Israel.” He also said that “Trump’s killing is our duty,” drawing applause from sections of the crowd.

Trump’s earlier remarks on Iran leadership

The developments come after US President Donald Trump recently claimed that Washington had the capability to eliminate Iran’s remaining leadership with “one shot,” though he said the US was not pursuing such an action and preferred to maintain diplomatic channels.

“They are all there. One shot [and we can take them all out], but we are not going to do that because then we would have nobody to negotiate with,” Trump said in an interview with Axios.

Massive funeral processions across Iran

Iran’s state broadcaster Press TV reported that the funeral procession began in Tehran on Monday morning and is expected to last 10–12 hours. It will cover a 10-kilometre route through major city streets including Enqelab Street and Azadi Square.

Authorities described it as one of the largest public gatherings in the country’s modern history.

Press TV said the funeral ceremonies will continue in the holy city of Qom on Tuesday, followed by processions at the shrines of Imam Ali (AS) in Najaf and Imam Hussein (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS) in Karbala on Wednesday.

The final burial is scheduled for July 9 at the shrine of Imam Reza in Mashhad, in accordance with Khamenei’s will.

International attendance and aftermath

Delegations from several countries, including Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Iraq, Tajikistan, Turkey, and many other nations, reportedly attended the ceremonies.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in US-Israeli strikes on February 28 this year, triggering heightened tensions across West Asia. Millions of mourners gathered in Tehran for the funeral rituals, with Iranian leaders vowing continued resistance and accountability for those responsible.

His son Mojtaba Khamenei has been appointed as the new Supreme Leader, though reports suggest he may skip the six-day ceremonies due to security concerns.
