In a striking mix of pop culture and geopolitics, the Consulate General of Iran in Mumbai has turned to Bollywood, using a viral meme and a famous dialogue linked to Shah Rukh Khan, to take a dig at the United States.

The now-viral post featured a scene from Dhamaal, humorously portraying the US as a character making an obvious tactical mistake, while being chased by opponents symbolising Iran. Sharing the clip, the consulate wrote, “Indian memes are GOAT,”highlighting how internet culture has become part of modern diplomatic messaging.

Even before the meme, the consulate had already grabbed attention by invoking a popular Bollywood line, ‘picture abhi baaki hai.’

“Funny how #Trump kept claiming #Iran’s navy was “finished”… now they’re about to find out how a swarm can pin you down real quick. Abhi toh sirf trailer hai, picture abhi baaki hai.”

The cinematic reference added drama to an already tense situation, while also resonating strongly with Indian audiences online.

What triggered the meme offensive?

The posts came shortly after Donald Trump announced a major escalation, ordering a blockade of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

In his statement, Trump said, “Effective immediately, the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz,”

He further warned that any threats would be met with force, raising tensions in one of the world’s most critical oil routes.
