Toronto: Police in Canada have launched an investigation after gunshots were reported outside the United States consulate in Toronto early Tuesday morning, triggering a security alert in the area.

According to local authorities, officers responded to reports of shots fired at around 5.29 am local time (0929 GMT). Investigators later confirmed that they found evidence indicating that a firearm had been discharged near the diplomatic mission.

Despite the alarming incident, police said no injuries were reported, and there were no immediate reports of damage to the building. Toronto police said officers were dispatched shortly after the gunfire was reported and began securing the area while collecting evidence.

Officials have not yet identified a suspect or determined the motive behind the shooting. The incident comes amid heightened security concerns following another attack on a US diplomatic facility in Europe earlier this week.

On March 8, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated outside the US embassy in Oslo, Norway, causing minor damage but no casualties. Norwegian police have been investigating the blast and are examining possible links to the ongoing Iran conflict.

Authorities in Norway on Monday released two surveillance images of a suspect believed to be involved in the attack. The photographs show a person wearing dark-coloured clothing, a hood and carrying a backpack, though the suspect’s face was not clearly visible in the grainy footage.

Investigators believe the individual planted the explosive device near the entrance of the embassy before fleeing the scene. “The individual has not yet been identified, and we currently have no specific suspects,” Norwegian police said in a statement.

It remains unclear whether the Toronto gunfire incident is connected to the Oslo embassy explosion, but security agencies are closely monitoring developments. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
