Abbotsford Police are probing the drive-by shooting and examining a nearby burnt vehicle for potential links.

Abbotsford: Popular Punjabi singer and actor Ammy Virk had a narrow escape after a luxury vehicle in his concert convoy came under gunfire in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. As per media reports, the incident occurred around 11:00 pm on McCallum Road following Virk’s performance at the Rogers Forum as part of his 2026 'Unity Tour'. Occupants of a dark-coloured SUV allegedly discharged approximately seven rounds at the vehicle, described by organisers as a bulletproof Rolls-Royce carrying Virk and his promoter, before fleeing the scene. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Investigation into Burnt Vehicle and Motive
The Abbotsford Police Major Crime Unit has launched an investigation into the shooting, treating it as a targeted attack. According to The Tribune, police responded minutes later to a separate report of an SUV engulfed in flames on Sunnyside Place, roughly five kilometres from the crime scene, and are examining whether the vehicle fire is linked to the drive-by firing. While Canadian authorities declined to publicly confirm the identity of the occupants, citing privacy protocols, concert organisers confirmed that Virk was inside the vehicle during the shooting.
Escalating Security Concerns for Entertainers
No group has claimed responsibility for the assault, and police have appealed for dashcam footage recorded in the area between 10:45 pm and midnight. The shooting targeting Virk’s convoy occurs amid a worrying trend of security incidents directed at prominent Punjabi entertainers across Canada, following previous shootings near the residences of artists such as Gippy Grewal and AP Dhillon. Authorities continue to gather evidence to establish a definitive motive.
