An Indian taxi driver in Dublin was brutally attacked with a bottle and subjected to racist slurs by two passengers, marking the third such assault on Indians in Ireland in two weeks

Dublin: An Indian-origin taxi driver in Dublin has become the latest victim in a spate of racist assaults, after he was brutally attacked by two men posing as passengers. The assailants reportedly shouted, “Go back to your own country,” before fleeing the scene.
Lakhvir Singh, a father of two and a resident of Ireland for over 23 years, was left bloodied and shaken after being struck twice on the head with a bottle. The attack occurred late Friday night in the Poppintree area of Ballymun, where the men had asked to be dropped off.
Speaking to Dublin Live, Singh recalled the terrifying ordeal. “I'm really scared now, and I'm off the road at the moment. It will be very hard to go back. My children are really scared,” he said.
After the assault, a disoriented Singh rang nearby doorbells for help, but no one responded. Eventually, he called emergency services and was taken to Beaumont Hospital for treatment. While his injuries were not life-threatening, the emotional toll has been severe.
Singh has worked as a cab driver in Dublin for the past decade and said this was the first time he had encountered such violence. “In 10 years, I've never seen anything like this happen,” he said.
The Gardaí confirmed they are investigating the assault: “A man, aged in his 40s, was brought to Beaumont Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injury. Investigations are ongoing.”
This marks the third reported attack on individuals of Indian origin in Ireland within just two weeks, raising serious concerns over rising racial hostility in the country. Community leaders have called for stronger protections for minority workers in public-facing roles.
