Kochi: A dispute over the taste of a dish escalated into violence  when a hotel owner attacked his chef with a knife in Angamaly. The accused, Muhammed Ubais, one of the co-owners of 'Meen Vilasam' hotel, allegedly slashed chef Riyas during an argument over a fish fry. Riyas, who sustained injuries to his hand, has been discharged from hospital following medical treatment.

Arguments over quality and broken equipment

The incident occurred when Ubais arrived at the establishment to eat. Upon being served a portion of fried fish by Riyas, the owner complained that the fish was of poor quality and lacked sufficient salt. The conversation quickly deteriorated when the chef pointed out that the hotel's freezer was out of order and had not yet been repaired.

Kitchen assault and police action

Following the altercation, the chef returned to the kitchen. Ubais followed him inside, seized a kitchen knife and struck Riyas on the hand. The Angamaly police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the assault.
