Washington: Former US president Bill Clinton was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday, a day after being admitted for a fever. The 78-year-old was treated for the flu at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, his office confirmed.

Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, Angel Urena, shared the news on the social media platform X, expressing gratitude for the exceptional care provided by the medical team. "President Clinton was discharged earlier today after being treated for the flu. He and his family are deeply grateful for the exceptional care provided by the team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and are touched by the kind messages and well wishes he received. He sends his warmest wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season to all," Urena said.

Previous health issues

This is not Clinton's first health scare. In October 2021, he was hospitalized for five nights due to a blood infection. In 2004, he underwent a quadruple bypass surgery after being diagnosed with heart disease, which led him to adopt a healthier lifestyle, including a vegetarian diet.

Clinton, who served as president from 1993 to 2001, is the second-youngest living US president after 63-year-old Barack Obama. His health made headlines in November 2022 when he tested positive for Covid-19. Despite controversies during his presidency, Clinton has remained active in diplomatic and humanitarian work in the years since leaving office.
