Cairo: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said on Wednesday that a consensus has been reached on the members of a 15-person Palestinian technocratic committee intended to administer the Gaza Strip.

He said the committee is expected to be announced soon and then deployed to Gaza to manage daily life and essential services.

The announcement comes amid ongoing talks in Cairo between Hamas officials and Egyptian mediators as part of a US-brokered truce framework for Gaza. Under a 20-point programme proposed by US President Donald Trump in October, Gaza would be administered by a transitional Palestinian committee operating under the supervision of a “Board of Peace”.

A senior Hamas official told AFP that discussions with Egyptian mediators are focusing on the formation of the committee, including its operational mechanisms. Hamas has stated that it does not seek a governing role in Gaza and would instead monitor the process to ensure stability and support reconstruction efforts.

Talks are also under way between Hamas representatives and other Palestinian factions, including Fatah, to address political and security developments, alleged Israeli violations of the ceasefire, and agreement on the committee’s leadership. Hamas officials said consensus among all factions is required before the committee can be formally established.

Once an agreement is finalised, Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas is expected to issue a presidential decree creating the body. Two names reported as potential heads of the committee are Ali Shaath, a former deputy planning minister in the Palestinian Authority, and Majed Abu Ramadan, the current Palestinian health minister.

Separate discussions are addressing the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, the reopening of the Rafah crossing, the entry of humanitarian aid currently held on the Egyptian side of the border, and preparations for the second phase of the ceasefire.

Egypt is also working to convene direct talks between Hamas and Fatah to resolve remaining disputes linked to Gaza’s post-war administration. Meanwhile, media reports say the proposed Board of Peace may be led on the ground in Gaza by former UN Middle East envoy Nickolay Mladenov, with an official announcement expected in the coming days.
