Washington: US President Donald J. Trump addressed the nation following the disruption of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, characterising the security response to an armed assailant as "incredibly acted upon by the Secret Service and law enforcement."

In his remarks, the president detailed the nature of the security breach, stating that a suspect had targeted a primary entry point. "A man charged a security checkpoint armed with multiple weapons, and he was taken down by some very brave members of the Secret Service," Trump said.

Release of Evidence

The president announced that he had authorised the immediate public disclosure of visual evidence from the scene to provide a clear account of the encounter.

"They acted very quickly and have just released, for purposes of transparency and clarity, I've ordered it to be put out... a tape showing the violence of this thug who attacked our Constitution, and also showing how quickly the Secret Service and law enforcement acted on our country's behalf," Trump stated.

The president also alluded to broader threats during his commentary, remarking that "powerful people also assassinated."

Update on Injured Personnel

Trump provided an update on the condition of the Secret Service agent who was wounded during the confrontation. He confirmed the officer escaped life-threatening injury due to the quality of his equipment.

"One officer was shot but saved by the fact that he was wearing a very good bulletproof vest," the president said. "He was shot from a very close distance with a very powerful gun, and the vest did the job. He's doing great. He's in great shape; he has very high spirits, and we told him we love him and respect him."

While describing the events of the evening as "very unexpected," the president repeatedly emphasised the courage of the protective detail in neutralising the threat before further harm could occur.
