Washington: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday firmly denied authoring a sexually explicit birthday message allegedly sent to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, dismissing the claims as fabricated and politically motivated.

The controversy erupted after the House Oversight Committee released subpoenaed documents from Epstein’s estate on Monday, including a bizarre birthday book compiled by Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell for his 50th birthday in 2003. Among the contents: a typewritten letter from "Donald" to "Jeffrey," inserted into a sketch of a nude woman, with Trump’s alleged signature placed where the woman's pubic hair would be.

The Wall Street Journal first reported the existence of the letter in July, prompting Trump to file a $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the publication and its parent company.

Speaking to reporters during a rare evening outing in Washington, Trump said:

"It's not my signature and it's not the way I speak."

"Anybody that's covered me for a long time knows that's not my language. It's nonsense. And frankly, you're wasting your time."

The letter features a brief dialogue between "Donald" and "Jeffrey," with lines such as "enigmas never age," and concludes with: "May every day be another wonderful secret."

Signature in question

Trump allies have disputed the authenticity of the letter, pointing to notable differences between the signature on the sketch and Trump's official documents from his presidency onward. However, The New York Times countered this by publishing several letters from the late 1990s and early 2000s bearing Trump’s signature — which reportedly shows strong similarities to the one in the 2003 note.

When asked if the White House would support an independent handwriting analysis, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt responded:

"Sure we would support that."

Leavitt: “Democrat Epstein Hoax”

Following the document's release, Leavitt took to social media, stating:

"It's very clear President Trump did not draw this picture, and he did not sign it."

"This is FAKE NEWS to perpetuate the Democrat Epstein Hoax!"

Pressed for clarification on Tuesday about whether she believed the documents themselves were fabricated — especially since they came directly from Epstein’s estate — Leavitt clarified:

"I did not say the documents are a hoax.

I said the entire narrative surrounding Jeffrey Epstein right now that is absorbing many of the liberal cable channels on television is a hoax that is being perpetuated by opportunistic Democrats... who are trying to push this hoax against the president of the United States."

Epstein, a wealthy financier with deep global connections, died in a New York jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges involving underage girls. His death was ruled a suicide by federal authorities during Trump’s presidency — a conclusion that continues to draw skepticism and fuel conspiracy theories.
