Washington: Delta Airlines has announced it will offer USD 30,000 to each passenger who was on board the plane that crashed while landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport earlier this week.
A company spokesperson explained: “This gesture has no strings attached and does not affect rights” of the passengers.

On Monday, a Delta Air Lines flight originating from Minneapolis, Minnesota, experienced a hard landing at Toronto's main airport. The plane, a Bombardier CRJ-900, flipped upside down after hitting the runway.
A dramatic fireball and thick black smoke engulfed the aircraft as it slid across the runway and came to a stop on its roof. Despite the severity of the crash, all 80 people on board survived.
Injuries, hospitalisation
Delta confirmed that 21 passengers were injured in the crash. However, by Wednesday morning, only one passenger remained hospitalised. Paramedics attending to the scene reported various injuries, including back sprains, head injuries, and anxiety-related conditions such as headaches.
Dramatic footage of the incident was shared on social media. The video shows the plane approaching the runway before it crashes, rolls, and slides, with its wings sheared off before coming to rest on its back.
Investigation underway
Canada's Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the crash, with assistance from the US Federal Aviation Administration, Delta Airlines, and Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi purchased the CRJ line of aircraft from Bombardier in 2019.
This crash adds to a worrying series of recent aviation incidents in North America, including a midair collision between a US Army helicopter and a passenger jet in Washington that resulted in 67 deaths, as well as a medical transport plane crash in Philadelphia, which claimed seven lives.
