Salalah: A 22-year-old woman from Tirur, who suffered a severe stroke in Salalah and underwent emergency surgery, was sent home for further treatment with the help of some good samaritans.
This amazing feat was accomplished because of the efforts of around 30 organisations and people in Salalah who collected money to ensure Mubinara, a native of Tirur, reached home safe. He came to the state using ventilator support.
Mubinara came to visit her husband, Mohammad Naus, a native of Wayanad in Salalah, a few months ago. Last week, she was admitted to Sultan Qaboos Hospital after suffering from severe headaches and vomiting.
After a checkup, doctors found that she had been experiencing a stroke and that they had to perform emergency head surgery. After the surgery, Mubinara was put on a ventilator. When slight improvements were seen in her health condition, it was decided that she would be taken home for further treatment as per the doctors' instructions.
The cost of sending her home was too high. It would cost around 4000 Omani rials to transport her to Kerala with ventilator support. The hospital bill had also reached around 3000 Omani rials. Naus also needed money for follow-up treatment. These expenses were too heavy for Naus, who works as a salesman in the local building materials supply shop.
The pain of a woman fighting for her life became the pain of every Malayalee in Salalah. At the Leader’s Forum, a social gathering of office-bearers of various organisations in Salalah, things picked up speed when the Salalah Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC) was ready to take up this initiative, provided all the organisations stood by their side.
All mainstream organisations in Salalah came forward to help. About 30 organisations donated varying amounts for this purpose. About 11,000 rials have been collected so far. Of this, about 6,000 riyals were collected by Salalah KMCC alone.
On Thursday, a team of medics arrived from Dubai to airlift her via Muscat on an Oman Air flight.
Further treatment will be done at Meitra Hospital in Kozhikode." Naus expressed his gratitude to everyone in Salalah and the hospital authorities who came together to help his wife. The General Secretary of Salalah KMCC, Shabir Kaladi, Hashim Kottakal, and RK Ahmed led the charity work.
