Sharjah: A deep love for automobiles is what inspired Rajeev K C, an expatriate from Kozhencherry in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district, to chase his long-cherished dream — participating in India's prestigious International Car Rally Championship. That dream came true recently when Rajeev took part in the Coimbatore leg of the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC), before returning to the UAE last week.

Organised by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), the INRC is India’s premier rallying event and has been running since 1988. Although Rajeev couldn’t make it to the first round held in Chennai, he successfully competed in the second round in Coimbatore on July 25 and 26. The rally, known for its challenging terrain and international standards, marked a proud milestone for Rajeev — fulfilling a passion he's nurtured for years.

A gritty drive towards glory

Rajeev, who has lived in the UAE for the past 10 years running a vehicle-related business in Dubai, has always been passionate about cars and driving. Participating in a world-class rally, however, is no ordinary feat. During the Coimbatore stage, Rajeev drove a total of 105.30 kilometres through tough and unforgiving tracks, completing two sets of three stages — each set to be finished within 11 minutes as per championship rules.

Racing in extreme heat without air-conditioning — which is prohibited in rally vehicles — Rajeev braved the conditions with determination. His co-driver for the event was Rizab, a motorsport enthusiast from Bengaluru. The duo raced alongside several international teams and top drivers, pushing their limits in a highly competitive environment.

Looking ahead

Rajeev now aims to participate in all upcoming rounds of the championship — Hyderabad (October 10–12), Coorg in November, Bengaluru in December and the final round in Indore (23–25 January 2026) — with the goal of clinching the overall title. Though missing the opening round may have set him back, Rajeev is focused on earning maximum points in the remaining stages.

More than just a race

Before qualifying, all rally vehicles — along with helmets, racing suits and safety gear — undergo rigorous checks by the FMSCI. For Rajeev, the journey to the rally track wasn't just about speed — it was about resilience, focus and pursuing a lifelong dream against the odds.

At 42, Rajeev proves that it's never too late to chase your passion. From the heat of Coimbatore’s dirt tracks to the fast-paced life of Dubai, his journey is an inspiring testament to where dedication and drive can take you — literally.
