Mid-flight disaster averted as passengers restrain a Palakkad youth attempting to force open an emergency door on a Kuala Lumpur–Kochi Batik Air flight.

Kochi (Kerala): A Malayali man has been detained after attempting to open the door of a flight travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Kochi. The youth, identified as Jamsheer, a native of Palakkad, damaged a window panel of the aircraft and tried to open the emergency exit door. A major tragedy was averted as fellow passengers intervened and restrained him.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night aboard a Batik Air flight flying from Kuala Lumpur to Kochi. Jamsheer broke the interior panel of the window adjacent to his seat. Disaster was avoided as aircraft windows consist of multiple layers. Following this, he attempted to force open the emergency door. Noticeably alarmed by his actions, fellow passengers acted promptly to overpower him.
The youth ran amok when the aircraft was just half an hour away from landing. Passengers kept him restrained and handed him over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) upon arrival.
Jamsheer was subsequently handed over to the Nedumbassery Police. He is currently undergoing detailed interrogation.
