Kolkata: In a shocking mid-air incident on IndiGo flight 6E138 from Mumbai to Kolkata on Friday, a passenger was allegedly assaulted by a fellow traveller while receiving medical assistance from the cabin crew.
According to sources cited by ANI, the victim appeared to be unwell and was being attended to by the IndiGo crew when, without warning, another passenger allegedly slapped him. The motive behind the assault remains unknown at this stage.
IndiGo confirmed the incident, labelling the behaviour as “unruly”, and stated that the assailant was handed over to airport security upon arrival in Kolkata. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) subsequently took the individual into custody for further investigation.
Authorities are expected to take appropriate action in accordance with aviation safety and security regulations.
In an official statement, IndiGo said: “We are aware of an incident involving a physical altercation on board one of our flights. Such unruly behaviour is completely unacceptable, and we strongly condemn any actions that compromise the safety and dignity of our passengers and crew.”
The airline further stated that the crew acted in line with standard operating procedures and that all relevant regulatory bodies had been notified, as per protocol.
“We remain committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment on all our flights,” the statement added.
