Amravati Airport marked a significant milestone by welcoming its first trial flight, an ATR-72 aircraft, on Sunday afternoon. The aircraft landed at 3:56 PM and departed for Indore at 4:17 PM, demonstrating the airport's readiness for commercial operations. 

Developed by the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), the airport is set to commence regular passenger flights in the second week of April. Alliance Air plans to operate flights connecting Amravati to Mumbai, enhancing regional connectivity under the UDAN scheme. 

MADC's Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Swati Pandey, highlighted that this achievement reflects the organization's dedication to improving aviation infrastructure in Maharashtra. The operationalization of Amravati Airport is expected to boost the local economy by facilitating trade and tourism.

This successful trial flight is just the beginning, said MADC. “The airport will solidify Amravati's place in India's aviation bringing seamless air connectivity to Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities in India. 

Located in Maharashtra’s Belora, Amravati Airport was initially developed by the Public Works Department in 1992. However, it remained non-operational for public use.  The airport was later revamped by state-run Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) with an extended runway and other upgrades to meet licensing requirements.

The initiative was part of Maharashtra government's broader push to expand its aviation infrastructure, which includes airports in Chandrapur, Dhule, Shirdi, and Navi Mumbai.
