As of July 26, 2024, the Income Tax Department has received more than 5 crore Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the Assessment Year (AY) 2024-25 through its e-filing portal, says the department. This represents an 8 per cent increase compared to the number of ITRs filed in the previous year.
On July 26 alone, the portal saw a substantial influx, with over 28 lakh ITRs submitted. This surge in filings highlights a growing trend of timely compliance among taxpayers and reflects the increasing reliance on digital platforms for tax submissions.
Infosys, the technology partner responsible for operating the e-filing portal, has been instructed to guarantee uninterrupted service during this peak period.
The Income Tax Department expressed its appreciation to taxpayers and tax professionals for the Income Tax Returns (ITRs). "We extend our gratitude to everyone who has helped us achieve this milestone," the Income Tax India post stated. "We urge those who have not yet filed their ITR for AY 2024-25 to do so as soon as possible to avoid a last-minute rush."
The deadline for filing ITR for AY 2024-25 is July 31, 2024.
