New Delhi: Bhai Dooj, marking the end of the Diwali festive season, is being celebrated today, Thursday, October 23. Those planning to visit banks are advised to check the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday schedule, as many branches across the country will remain closed.

According to the RBI’s official bank holiday list, banks are closed today in several states including Gujarat, Sikkim, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Himachal Pradesh. The closures are in observance of Bhai Dooj, Chitragupta Jayanti, and Bhatri Dwitiya.

In these states, customers are advised to avoid visiting bank branches as physical operations will not be available. However, online and digital banking services remain fully functional across all regions.

Banks in the rest of the country are open and operating normally.

Upcoming bank holidays this month

The RBI has also listed additional holidays in the last week of October 2025:

  • October 25 (Saturday): Fourth Saturday (banks closed nationwide)
  • October 26 (Sunday): Weekly holiday

RBI decides bank holidays

The Reserve Bank of India determines and publishes the annual list of bank holidays, which may vary from state to state. Apart from national holidays, special regional holidays are added based on local festivals or state requests.

Customers planning to visit bank branches for financial work are advised to check the RBI’s official holiday calendar to avoid inconvenience.

Online services such as internet banking, ATMs, and UPI will continue to function normally across all states during the festive period.
