Banks across several parts of India will remain closed for up to four days between June 25 and June 28 due to Muharram-related holidays and the fourth Saturday-Sunday weekend, according to the RBI holiday calendar.

Customers planning branch visits next week may need to check local holiday schedules, as both public and private sector banks, including SBI and HDFC Bank, will observe multiple closures across different states.

Banks closed on June 25 and 26

The first set of closures will take place due to Muharram observances.

On June 25, banks will remain closed in Vijayawada.

On June 26, bank branches will be shut in Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi and Srinagar.

Weekend closures on June 27 and 28

Banks across the country will remain closed on June 27 as it is the fourth Saturday of the month.

June 28 is a Sunday, resulting in another nationwide bank holiday.

Together, these holidays mean some regions will experience four consecutive days without branch operations.

Are banks open on June 20?

Banks were open on June 20 because it was the third Saturday of the month.

Under RBI rules, banks remain operational on the first, third and fifth Saturdays unless a specific regional holiday is declared.

Online banking services remain available

Despite branch closures, customers will continue to have access to digital banking services.

UPI transactions, internet banking, mobile banking applications, NEFT and RTGS services, ATM withdrawals, debit card and credit card transactions will remain available during the holiday period, subject to routine maintenance schedules.

Services that may require branch visits

Certain banking services still require physical visits to bank branches, including:

  • Opening some types of accounts requiring in-person verification
  • Signature updates
  • Account closure requests
  • Locker-related services
  • Large cash deposits and withdrawals requiring verification
  • Physical KYC document submissions
  • Certain loan applications and restructuring requests

Customers are advised to complete such transactions before the holiday period begins.

Upcoming bank holidays in June

Apart from Muharram-related holidays, RBI's June holiday calendar includes regional holidays such as Sant Guru Kabir Jayanti in Shimla on June 29 and Remna Ni in Aizawl on June 30.

As bank holidays vary by state, customers should verify holiday schedules with their local branches before planning visits.
