
Air India plans to refine its internal process and focus on retrofitting its aircraft with new seats to elevate its passenger experience, chief executive, Campbell Wilson said.
In an internal email to the employees, CEO said: “With Air India, Vistara, Air India Express and AirAsia now under one roof, and all the uncertainties and challenges of merger receding into history, we must now look forward, as a united team, to a common destination... We will be working hard in 2025, with you, to embed this deeply into our DNA.”
Wilson in his email emphasised the key milestones achieved in 2024 that positioned the airline as the fourth-largest business by revenue within the Tata Group. Following this strategy, the airline reduced losses to INR 4,444.10 crore from INR 11,387.96 crore in 2022-23. The airline also recorded a strong turnover of INR 38,812 crore with an increase of 23.69%.
The combined entity Air India now operates 300 aircraft across both brands, flying over 60 million passengers annually to more than 100 destinations in India and around the world and employs 30,000 staff.
Looking at some of the major milestones achieved by the airline,
- The launch of India’s first A350 aircraft
- the addition of 100 more aircraft to its extensive orderbook
- the inauguration of a state-of-the-art training academy in Gurugram,
- the construction for new MRO base (for maintenance, repair and overhaul of aircraft) in Bengaluru
- establishing 34-aircraft flight school in Amravati, Maharashtra.
“We commenced the interior refit of our full-service narrowbody fleet, opened the first of our new premium passenger lounges in Bengaluru, and restructured our network to ensure that the best aircraft serve key routes, including domestic metro-metros and flagship destinations such as London Heathrow and New York,” Wilson said.
Mentioning Vihaan.Ai the CEO stated that Air India is just half-way through its transformation plan and the airline still has a long way to go. Expressing hope for 2025, Wilson said that 2025 will be no less transformative in its own way.
We are sure to expect more reforms, more innovations and enhanced services from Air India in 2025.
