Thodupuzha: A young artist who lived for music, rising above a difficult childhood without parental support, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of talent and resilience.

Elias Eldhose (26), an accomplished instrumental musician, was found dead in his room on Friday morning.

Largely self-taught, Elias did not train under established gurus. He was brought to the Mother and Child Orphanage in Thodupuzha at the age of one and a half, where he spent his formative years. Music became his refuge, helping him cope with personal hardships. He later completed his schooling and college education while at the orphanage.

Elias went on to form a music troupe at the institution, which he also led. He was known for mentoring younger children, teaching them keyboard and drums.

Music remained central to his life. In 2018, he shared the stage with noted musician Stephen Devassy at Kochi Marine Drive, where his performance earned widespread appreciation and even impressed Devassy.

He had performed at a programme in Goa shortly before his death. He had informed associates that he would attend programmes scheduled in Thodupuzha on 6 and 7 April, but was delayed and returned only on 8 April. He is reported to have injured his knee while getting off a train during his return journey.

After arriving back in Thodupuzha, Elias retired to his room on the night of 9 April. When he failed to respond to calls the next morning, the door was forced open and he was found hanging.

Police reached the scene and initiated further proceedings. The body was released after a post-mortem examination.

His funeral was held at the cemetery of St Mary’s Jacobite Syrian Church, Thalakkode, his native place. He is survived by four brothers.
