
Kozhikode: P T Praveesh Kumar, a talented young artist from Kakkur in Kozhikode, is gaining recognition for his exceptional ability to transform wood, stones, clay, coconut shells, and others into stunning sculptures. His creative works, which include masterpieces like Ganapathy, Sree Buddha, Lakshmi, Krishna, Mecca, and dragon are admired not only in Kerala but across the country.
Praveesh Kumar, the son of Velayudhan Achari and Pushpa, developed a passion for art from a young age. His first lessons came from his father and grandfather, who helped shape his early interest in sculpture. He credits his teachers at Edakkara SVUP School and Pavandur Higher Secondary School as key influences during his school years.

After completing his plus two education, Praveesh pursued a two-year diploma focusing on traditional sculpture and wood carving at the Canara Bank Institute of Artisans in Karaikudi, Madurai, where he was mentored by notable artists Sajay Madhavan, Palanivel, and Rinju. This training helped him master the craft and create lifelike sculptures with remarkable ease.
He also received training in sculpture and wood carving from renowned sculptors like Veliyannur Kesavan Achari, Changanari Krishnan Achari, Changanari Sathyan Achari, and Cheliya Murali Achari. Praveesh's expertise has been sought in the construction of temples across Kerala, where his intricate sculptures continue to enhance the spiritual and artistic heritage of the region.
