Ernakulam: Sub Inspector K Vijayan (49), stationed at Bedakam, Kasaragod, died while undergoing treatment for poisoning. He passed away at Ernakulam Amrita Hospital around 6:30 pm on Saturday.
Vijayan was found unconscious in the quarters of Bedakam station on the morning of April 29 and had consumed poison. He was taken to Mangalore initially but later transferred to Amrita Hospital, where his condition deteriorated.
During treatment, Vijayan told police about his intention to end life by ingesting poison, citing unbearable work pressure as the motive behind his decision.
Vijayan, reportedly, was the head investigator in a case concerning political friction in the Bedakam station limit relating to the Lok Sabha elections. It is believed that the mounting pressure associated with this investigation may have led him to take the extreme step.
He is survived by wife, Sreeja, and children Aavani and Abhijit, both students of GHSS Balanthode, Kasaragod.
