Kochi: Residents and businesses in Kochi are set to face extensive power interruptions for the next two months as part of the ongoing Phase II Metro Rail project.

The outages will affect areas under the Kadavanthra, Wellington Island, Mattancherry, Fort Kochi, Chellanam, and Aroor substations from Monday until December 28.

The Metro Rail construction is currently underway from Kaloor Stadium to Infopark. As part of the project, the height of the Kalamassery–Aluva 110 kV double-circuit line near Vaazhakala, close to the metro corridor, needs to be increased. Existing electric towers will be removed and replaced with new ones at the same location, with work scheduled to begin this Monday.

While the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has planned these measures to complete the work with minimal disruption, authorities caution that additional, unplanned maintenance on extra high-tension lines may be required. During this period, electricity supply could be affected in areas under six major substations.
