Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Transport Minister Antony Raju on Friday said that wearing seat belts will be compulsory for drivers and cabin crew members in heavy vehicles, including KSRTC buses from September 1. 

Similarly, both riders and pillion riders in two-wheelers should have helmets, and if any of them is in the vehicle without it, then a fine will be evoked. 

The minister also attributed the decline in the number of accidents in the last four days to measures including AI-driven surveillance cameras installed as part of the 'Safe Kerala Project'. 

According to the minister, only 28 accident-related deaths happened as compared to the projected 48 deaths(the projection is based on the average count of accident-related deaths per day in Kerala, which is 12).

“People have welcomed new changes proactively,” he noted.
