Kozhikode: AP Abdul Wahab, who had earlier severed ties with the Indian National League (INL), has launched a new political party named National League.
Led by Abdul Wahab, the new party has Nazar Koya Thangal as its general secretary and Ismail as the working president. Addressing the media here, Wahab said that his party has the support of the LDF convener and will continue to be a part of the Left Democratic Front (LDF).
Earlier, the rift between the Wahab faction and Kasim Irikkoor in INL intensified, and the meeting held at Kochi turned violent.
The party's national executive committee had summoned a meeting and dismissed the state committee in Kerala. Following this, minister Ahammad Devarkovil who is also the national general secretary of the party formed a seven-member ad hoc panel under his chairmanship. The panel also decided to form the new state-level committee by March 31. Amidst this, the Wahab faction announced a new state committee.
Following the split last month, the Wahab faction had announced that they would not campaign for Lok Sabha elections as INL had not given them any upper hand in the decision-making. They had also raised the issue in the LDF camp of how INL was giving priority to Kassim Irikkur's faction and was not supporting Wahab's faction.
Meanwhile, Wahab and his supporters will go ahead with a legal course to claim the rights on INL. Speaking about the legal case, he said his faction would respect whatever decision taken by the court.
Wahab revealed that Ebrahim Sulaiman Sait had earlier suggested the name 'National League' for the party. Sait formed a party in 1994 and named it the National League.
