Ebrahim Sulaiman Sait known as "Mehboob-e-Millat" was a prominent Indian politician who played a pivotal role in fostering the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML). He was a lawyer by profession and played a vital role in shaping the political landscape in Kerala. Sait was a staunch advocate for the rights and representation of Muslims in India. He was a founding member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and also served as IUML's national president for several years. Under his leadership, the IUML became a powerful political force, championing the rights of Muslims and other minority communities. Sait later severed ties with the Indian Union Muslim League and formed the Indian National League. Ebrahim Sulaiman Sait also served as a Member of Parliament in the early years of India's independence, representing the Malappuram constituency. He was also known for his efforts to promote educational and economic development among Muslims and marginalised communities in the region.
On the occasion of his birth anniversary on November 3, his daughter, Tasneem Ebrahim pens a heartfelt note.
Today is the birth anniversary of my beloved father late Mahboob e Millath Ebrahim Sulaiman Sait. He was someone who was always travelling without rest. My memory of him is how rooted he was in his faith and how determined he was to make things work.
He was always willing to help those in need. I used to wonder how my father was so different. He would always reach out to those affected by riots, the families of those killed in violence, and those suffering in various ways. He felt their pain and put all his efforts into ensuring justice for them.
His strong voice in the parliament was one to reckon with. In his personal life too, he was very affectionate, loving, and caring. He was always at the forefront of settling disputes and wanted to see everyone united.
The demolition of Babri Masjid was a personal blow to him. But with his unwavering faith, he was able to accept the grave situation.
Losing his father at a young age made his life quite challenging. He was not just my father but a role model and an inspiration. He stood by his values till the very end and that’s why still lives in the hearts of millions.
