
Maradu (Kochi): The police arrested V for Kerala activists for opening Vyttila flyover before its inauguration. V for Kerala Kochi coordinator Nipun Cherian, Sooraj Angelos and Raphael were arrested. The flyover which was supposed to be inaugurated on Saturday was opened by V for Kerala activists the other day. Police booked a case against them for damaging public property.
The arrested will be produced in the court on Wednesday afternoon and will be remanded. The police estimated a loss of around Rs 1.5 lakh. Following this, security was tightened at Vyttila and Kundannoor flyovers.
The incident took place on Tuesday at 7 pm. V for Kerala Kochi unit had already informed that they would organise a protest. The police had arranged security in Aluva area following this.
V for Kerala activists removes the barricades in Aroor area and allowed vehicles to pass through the flyover. However, the barricades on the other side of the flyover was not removed and the vehicles could not move ahead. Thus a huge traffic block was formed in the area.
V for Kerala Kochi unit had organised a protest the other day demanding to open the flyover for the public as its construction was completed. The police stopped them and sent them back.
V for Kerala leaders claimed that the locals who were inspired by their protest opened the flyover. They added that the police blocked the vehicles that were passing through the flyover and it was illegal. They also said that they would approach the court against this.
