Thiruvananthapuram: The 11th pay revision commission of Kerala headed by V K Mohandas IAS  has recommended to increase the retirement age of government servants by one year. Currently, it is 56.

The commission submitted its report on Thursday to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The commission wanted the government to reduce the working days to 5 days a week and increase the working hours by an hour per day. The working hours can be from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm.

The report also recommended forming a recruitment board for private schools and colleges to end the current way of recruitment to government-aided institutions in Kerala. The representatives of management will also be present in the recruitment board. The process have to be videographed. A committee headed by a retired judge have to be formed to address the complaints.

Though the commission does not recommend work from home, it can be used during exigencies, it said.

The commission also asked the government to reduce holidays and end compassionate appointments. Compassionate appointments affects the efficiency and reduces chances of the meritorious candiates, the report says. It suggests to increase the financial assistance for the family instead of appointment.

The recommendations are expected to invoke strong reactions from the youth organisations and the aided school managements.
