Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has allocated Rs 551.5 crore to the Public Works Department (PWD) for preparations for the upcoming Sabarimala pilgrimage season, Chief Minister V D Satheesan said on Sunday.
The allocation was approved following a proposal submitted by Public Works Minister P K Basheer after a review meeting on preparations for the Mandalakala-Makaravilakku pilgrimage season, Satheesan's office said.

The allocation is higher than the Rs 377.80 crore provided in 2025-26 and Rs 326.97 crore in 2024-25 for Sabarimala pilgrimage preparations.
Satheesan has directed officials to complete preparatory works before the pilgrimage season begins and ensure adequate facilities and safety for devotees.

A joint control room involving all departments will be set up at Sannidhanam. Authorities have also been directed to intensify cleaning at Pampa, Sabarimala and transit centres, ensure adequate water and toilet facilities, and keep parking areas clear.
The Chief Minister also directed officials to ensure the structural, fire and electrical safety of buildings and expedite construction works at transit centres managed by the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB).
The TDB has been asked to provide necessary facilities for police, health workers and other government personnel stationed at Sabarimala during the pilgrimage.

Earlier this week, Satheesan said the state government and the TDB would work together to ensure a smooth pilgrimage for devotees.
The Mandalakala-Makaravilakku pilgrimage season is scheduled to begin in mid-November and conclude in the third week of January next year.
