Thiruvananthapuram: The Cantonment police arrested Muslim Youth League state general secretary PK Firoz in connection to the outfit's Secretariat march on January 18, which turned violent. 

Firoz, who is the first accused in the case, was arrested from Palayam in Thiruvananthapuram. A total of 28 Youth League leaders are in remand in the case registered in connection with the march. 

Reacting to the development, Youth League leadership maintained that Pinarayi Vijayan regime's police could not quench their spirit of struggle with handcuffs and prisons.   

Following the arrest, Muslim League National Secretary PK Kunhalikutty said that the intolerance towards protests shown by the Left government, which came to power by encouraging such agitations, is surprising. 

He said that the police supressed the Youth League ‘Save Kerala’ march in a brutal manner. Police arrested around 30 Youth League workers. The cases registered against them are fabricated, Kunhalikutty claimed. Kunhalikutty added that organisation would not bow down to such intimidations.

On January 18, police lathi-charged protestors when they hurled glass bottles, and pieces of concrete and tried to remove barricades. The situation escalated minutes after Firoz, and Kunhalikutty inaugurated the event.
