New Delhi: India on Sunday condemned the attack on commercial vessel MT El Gaia off the coast of Oman, saying 13 of the 14 Indian crew members onboard have been rescued so far.

The Ministry of External Affairs said search and rescue operations are continuing for the missing Indian national.

‘Our Embassy in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and proactively coordinating with the Omani authorities in the ongoing Search and Rescue operation,’ the MEA said in a statement.

India also thanked the Omani authorities for their support in rescuing the Indian nationals.

The MEA reiterated New Delhi’s call for the immediate de-escalation of tensions in the region and urged all sides to pursue dialogue and diplomacy to restore peace.

‘The targeting of commercial shipping, seafarers, civilians, and civilian infrastructure in the region is unacceptable,’ the ministry said.

India further called for the restoration of free and safe navigation and the uninterrupted flow of commerce through international waterways in the region at the earliest.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in West Asia, with growing concerns over the safety of commercial shipping and seafarers operating in the region.

The Indian Embassy in Oman continues to coordinate with the Omani authorities as the search operation for the missing Indian crew member remains underway.
