Palakkad: Land owners in Kerala who have been waiting to correct errors in their land deeds can now do so without hassle. The Land Revenue Commissioner has directed village officers to issue the necessary certificates to land owners for correcting errors in land deed documents. This move is aimed at streamlining the procedures for registering rectification deeds. This will help many people who have been unable to get several services, including houses under the LIFE Mission, due to mistakes that have crept into the deed documents.

Errors in the survey number, sub-division number, district, taluk, village, and region should be corrected in the sub-registrar offices. The sub-registrar is responsible if any errors are found in the audit or the government loses tax revenue due to this.

However, corrections cannot be registered without a certificate from the village officer. Stating a lack of instructions from the Land Revenue Commissioner, village officers often declined to provide the certificate. This has been resolved with the latest move.

Thathamangalam native Chandran Chami complained to the chief minister about the suffering of people who were denied houses due to the inability to correct mistakes in the land deed documents. Action was taken based on this complaint.
