Kozhikode: Vigilance officials seized 145 fake documents from a shop near the driving test ground at Chevayur in Kozhikode on Friday. Besides, Rs 1,59,390 cash, 114 RC books, 12 driving licenses and 12 permits were seized.
Among the documents seized, some had RTO seal. The Transport Commissioner visited the spot and enquired the details. Vigilance has also registered a case.
The money, documents and RC book were seized from an unauthorised shop which deals in auto consultancy and general insurance services. Officials said the shop is owned by Rabi Chand, a native of Kozhikode.
The raid at the shop was based on intelligence inputs. Vigilance SP Prince Abraham led the team of officials in the operation.
Sources allege that a nexus exists between RT officials and illegal entities who facilitate services like fitness certificates and permits.
Earlier this month, inspections conducted by Vigilance in RTOs revealed that Motor Vehicle Department officials have established ‘collection agents’ to collect bribes from the middlemen.
