Thiruvananthapuram: Leader of the Opposition in Kerala, V D Satheesan, has written to the Election Commission of India (ECI) raising concerns over the delay in publishing official poll data for the recently concluded Kerala Assembly elections held on April 9, 2026.

Delay in constituency-wise election data raises transparency concerns

The letter comes three days after polling, with detailed and authenticated constituency-wise figures yet to be released on the ECI’s official website.

Satheesan stressed that key data — including constituency-wise polling figures, vote percentages and postal ballot statistics — remains unavailable, prompting concerns over transparency in the electoral process.

“The prompt release of such information is crucial to ensuring transparency, enabling public scrutiny and maintaining trust in the electoral process,” he said.

Call for immediate release of Kerala poll data

Urging swift action, Satheesan asked the poll body to publish complete and verified election data without further delay, highlighting its importance for voters, political stakeholders and researchers.

Political reactions ahead of results

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala expressed confidence in a strong victory for the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), claiming that the electorate is ready for political change in the state.

He asserted that the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) is nearing the end of its tenure, signalling a possible shift in Kerala’s political landscape.

Voter turnout and ECI response

The April 9 polling recorded a voter turnout of 78.03 per cent, reflecting strong voter participation across the state.

According to the Election Commission of India, the elections were conducted peacefully, with extensive live webcasting across polling stations to ensure transparency.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar described the exercise as a “historic testimony” to democratic participation.
