Neyyattinkara: Vasantha, who is the complainant in the land dispute that led to Neyyattinkara tragedy, stated that her agreement with Bobby Chemmannur to sell the controversial land is legal.

The title deed of the disputed land is registered in the name of Sukumaran Nair. As per colony law, a title deed, when handed over to someone, is given in the name of the first owner. However, there is provision to trade this land. Vasantha stated that that is how she became the owner of the land.

“The title deed registered in Sukumaran Nair’s name was later bought by Sugandhi. Later, I bought the land from Sugandhi when she needed money for her daughter’s marriage. I have been paying the taxes for the land for 15 years. I have all the documents to prove this. The land was sold to Bobby Chemmannur with legitimate documents,” Vasantha said.

“The Colony residents have an animosity against me as I am against the drugs and other illegal activities that are taking place here. They want to get rid of me somehow. They have been hurling stones at my house and setting off firecrackers in order to harass me. I informed the police as I was no longer able to take this harassment. I did not get justice even after meeting the DGP in this regard.”

Rajan and other colony residents tried to prove that this was poramboke land. She added that her fight was against this.

Meanwhile, the children of Rajan and Ambili rejected Bobby Chemmannur’s offer to buy the controversial land for them. They wanted the government to hand over the land to them. They asked how Vasantha had the right to sell the land when it was not documented in her name as per RTI.
