Kozhikode, Kerala: Opposition leader in Kerala assembly, VD Satheesan, on Wednesday said that Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) would transform the state into the number one state in India if voted to power.

Speaking at a UDF rally held at Kozhikode beach, he asserted that the front has both the commitment and a clear roadmap to implement the five guarantees announced by Rahul Gandhi.

Responding to doubts over the feasibility of these promises, Satheesan said the UDF would take responsibility for mobilising resources to fund the schemes.

He outlined key proposals, including free bus travel for women in KSRTC buses and a monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000 for college-going girls. He also said the UDF aims to reduce healthcare expenses in the state by half in the initial phase, by introducing an insurance model similar to the one implemented by the Indian National Congress government in Rajasthan.

Satheesan further said the UDF plans to strengthen higher education and create job opportunities within the state to ensure that Kerala’s youth do not have to migrate abroad for employment.

He added that the guarantees were announced after detailed discussions within the UDF and the Congress leadership.
