Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader VD Satheesan said that UDF MPs and MLAs will not accept the free food kit provided by Supplyco on the occasion of Onam.
"Because of the severe financial crisis, only yellow ration card holders are given Onam kits this year. Even so, it has not been properly delivered. It is decided that the elected members of the UDF won't be accepting free kits that are not distributed to commoners and the impoverished in the state. Supplyco has been notified of our decision," he said.
The Civil Supplies Department has instructed concerned proprietors to open ration shops from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. to complete the kit distribution on Monday.
It appears that the state's financial difficulties have led to a delay in providing free food kits before the Onam holidays. According to food department officials, this delay occurred because they faced challenges in collecting the required food items for the kits.
