Kozhikode: The United Democratic Front (UDF) has finalised its seat-sharing arrangement for the Kozhikode District Panchayat in view of the upcoming local body elections in Kerala. Of the total 28 seats, the Congress will contest in 14, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) in 11, while the Communist Marxist Party (CMP), Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP), and Kerala Congress (Joseph group) factions will each contest one seat.

The distribution of seats was decided at a UDF leaders’ meeting held on Tuesday. However, UDF leaders indicated that the Congress and the Muslim League may swap a few seats between themselves after the official announcement of the election schedule. The Muslim League and Congress have each received one additional seat in the district panchayat — Mokeri for the League and Kayakkodi for the Congress.

The Meppayur seat, which was earlier held by the Kerala Congress, has been allotted to the Congress in exchange for Perambra, which the Congress has given up. The Congress is expected to announce its list of candidates for the district panchayat by the 10th of this month.
