New Delhi: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the opposing parties on the petition filed by K. Babu in the Tripunithura election case. The notice was sent by a bench comprising Justices Anirudha Bose and Bela M Trivedi. The SC adjourned the petition for hearing after two weeks.
The HC had issued an order stating that the election case filed against Babu for allegedly soliciting votes using religious symbols would stand. Babu questioned this order and approached the SC.
Senior advocates C.U Sindhu and Romi Chacko who appeared for Babu, stated that M Swaraj did not adhere to the procedures when filing an electoral petition in the HC. It is based on this allegation that a notice was sent to the opposing parties.
Advocate P.V Dinesh accepted the notice on behalf of Swaraj. He demanded that since the case pertains to the 2021 elections, it should be heard at the earliest. Following this, SC set aside the petition to be considered after two weeks.
