Thrissur: The LDF has reached a consensus on the Congress rebel candidate M K Varghese to the Thrissur corporation mayor's post. It has been decided to appoint Varghese as mayor for the first two years of the term. The decision was taken in a discussion held by CPM leaders including A C Moideen.

The decision in this regard was delayed as Varghese was adamant about making him mayor for the entire five years. However, the CPM leaders did not agree to this. Later, Varghese changed his demand to three years. This also was not accepted.

Finally, a discussion held on Saturday night agreed to appoint Varghese as mayor for the first two years. In the remaining three years, CPM and CPI will share the mayor post. The official declaration of this will be made on Sunday evening.

Thrissur corporation has 54 divisions. LDF had won 24 seats, UDF won 23 and NDA in 6 seats and the rebel in one seat during the local body election held recently. With this, the rebel candidate offered to support LDF.
