Kochi: The LDF's move to pass a no-confidence motion in Thrikkakara municipality failed as the quorum did not suffice. Following this, the UDF members protested in front of the municipality. The opposition had tried to move the no-confidence motion against chairperson Ajitha Thankappan on the grounds of the onam gift row.
The municipality opposition leader Chandrababu informed that a no confidence motion will again be introduced within six months. He added that the opposition firmly stands on the allegations against the chairperson. However, the chairperson responded that the opposition had failed desperately.
There are 16 Congress and five Muslim League councillors in Thrikkakara municipality. Out of the 43 members in the council, Congress has the support of 21 members. However, the indifference of A group members and the three councillors of Muslim League who did not participate in the meetings made UDF panic till the last day. But, all the UDF councillors decided to stay back from the discussions on no-confidence motion.
LDF had taken a huge effort to introduce the no-confidence motion. They brought a Covid affected councillor wearing a PPE kit to the meeting. But the motion failed as four of the independent councillors hesitated to participate. Including one independent councillor, only 18 members attended the meeting.
